The learning Environment

Andale School was established in 1981, the ANSUA Centre for children experience learning difficulties developing sensory motor, language, literacy and numeracy skills. The ANSUA School (as Andale was originally called) provided programmes where children could be taught at their own level without the pressure of competition that occurs in most schools.

Now in the new millennium, Andale School as we are now called, provides a supported learning programme for children with language and learning difficulties.

Andale School is centrally located in Kew between No 48 and 109 tramlines in High Street and Whitehorse Roads (respectively). The school is situated in buildings at the rear of the Kew Uniting Church. We have a lease arrangement with the church but we are not affiliated with any religion. Our School is rather like an Urban Country School, providing a small environment with multi-age class groups. We believe and have proved that a small, friendly learning environment is very important and effective for our students as many of them have come from large schools where they have not yet experienced a great deal of success, either socially or academically.

A large learning environment with lots of faces, noise and movement can be overwhelming for children with language and learning difficulties. At Andale School we have a safe and enclosed playground. There is playground equipment to promote the development of social and physical skills, as well as a large play area suitable for all sorts of games and activities, such as tennis, footy, cricket, basketball etc.

At Andale School we provide a safe, secure and nurturing learning environment that supports and encourages children to repair their self-esteem. From this secure base children develop the skills and confidence to repair their self-esteem. From this secure base children develop the skills and confidence to meet the challenges offered and encountered in their learning.
